The Shade Foundation is pleased to announce that it has partnered with NASCAR driver Brady Boswell to help educate young people across America about sun safety and the dangers of skin cancer.

“We’re thrilled to be working together with Brady Boswell and NASCAR to spread the message of sun safety nationwide,” said James Norton, Chairman of the Shade Foundation National Board of Directors. “On behalf of our Board of Directors, I thank them both for their commitment to our shared goal of teaching children across the country about the importance of staying sun-wise and preventing the development of melanoma in young people.”

Under the partnership, Boswell will help to promote the Shade Foundation and its mission as part of his racing package, including prominent display of Shade Foundation branding on his race car and fire suit. He also will play an active role in Shade Foundation awareness events, including the Shade Foundation’s annual poster contest for students in grades K-8, announced in September.

“I am very honored to be an ambassador for the Shade Foundation,” said Boswell. “The Shade Foundation is committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. I am excited to exercise my full support to grow this great foundation as we work together to educate on the dangers of skin cancer and on preventative methods.”

“We appreciate all of the hard work and commitment Brady has shown us already, and we are excited to be working with him,” said Lawrence Young, Shade Foundation Executive Director. “Partnering with Brady and NASCAR will help bring our message to young racing fans.”

About Brady Boswell

A resident out of Watkinsville, GA, Brady Boswell is an up-and-coming NASCAR series driver who started making a name for himself in racing at just nine years old. In 2007, he debuted in his first ever race in a Bandolero. After the first year, his success and talent came alive. In 2009, he took on double duty behind the wheel of his Bandolero as well as a new Prochallenge racecar. That year, he won three races in his Bandolero and two championships in his Prochallenge. In 2010, he made the switch to a Legends car. By the end of the year, he had three victories and a fifth place average finishing position. He made his Pro Late Model debut in 2011, finishing second and catching the eyes of new guys in the division. He continued racing his Pro Latemodel in 2012 and competed in the World Crown 300 as well as other big CRA racing events. In 2013, Boswell took the Air Flow Research Rookie Of The Year title and led many laps battling with the veterans up front in the X-1R Pro Cup series. He has taken time off from racing recently to complete his studies in college, but stands poised to reenter racing this coming season with a full schedule ahead of him.

Remember:
• Be original and drawn by hand. No copyrighted/trademarked characters or material.
• Paper size must be 8 ½ x 11 inches.
• Posters must include at least five Sun Safety Action Steps.
• Attach the official entry form to the back of each submitted poster

Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02) addresses attendees at the 2016 Shade Poster Contest Reception

WASHINGTON, DC – The Shade Foundation has announced that Alexia, a fourth grade student at the Fairfield Magnet School for Math & Science in Winnsboro, South Carolina, is the national winner of this year’s Shade Foundation Sun Safety Poster Contest.

Now in its thirteenth year, the annual Sun Safety Poster Contest invited students nationwide to create original artwork that depicts the steps people should take to protect themselves from damaging U/V rays that can cause skin cancer, including avoiding tanning beds, using SPF 30+ sunscreen and wearing protective clothing. Students learn about these steps as part of their curriculum. Posters are judged on their sun safety educational value, in addition to creativity, originality, and overall quality of the artwork.

“Since we started this poster contest more than a decade ago, more than 167,000 students across the country have submitted posters and learned about sun safety in the process,” said James Norton, chair of the Shade Foundation Board of Directors. “We are thankful to the students and teachers across the country who participated in this year’s contest and helped us educate children about the importance of sun safety.

We also extend our sincere congratulations to Alexia, this year’s winner, for her terrific poster design.” As part of her prize, Alexia traveled to Washington, D.C. with her family and her teacher, Mrs. Kimi Daly. She was the guest of honor at a reception to be held by the Shade Foundation on Tuesday, Wednesday, May 24 at 5:30 pm at the National Association of Realtors, 500 New Jersey Avenue, NW in Washington, DC. Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) was among the special guests at the reception. Alexia and her family also toured the U.S. Capitol and met with U.S. Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC).
